MICHAEL C CARTER

 

I am a Chartered Engineer and  corporate Member of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine. I holds a Master of Philosophy Degree awarded by the University of London for a thesis on 'Test procedures and criteria for testing fetal monitors'. i was registered by the HPC as a Clinical Scientist until 2007.

Since 1975 I have specialised in technology relating to fetal monitoring. From 1982 to 1995 I ran the UK Departments of Health's National Centre for the evaluation of fetal monitors. The centre was based at St Mary's Hospital Medical School, London. The results from the evaluations were published by the Medical Devices Agency in 'Evaluation', as what might be best described as a 'Which?' report on fetal monitors. The report went to all hospitals in the UK. Twenty one different models of fetal monitors were evaluated.

From 1998 until 2000 I worked in the Medical Physics Department at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital Trust, London. I was employed as a clinical scientist in the Year2000 project. 

Since January 2000 I have worked as an Expert Witness and independent Clinical Scientist/ Bioengineer consultant.

In 2001 Michael Carter set up a company to market his expertise in fetal monitoring technology and technical interpretation of the cardiotocogram. He has been instructed by leading firms of solicitors to provide advice and reports for the Court relating to high value cerebral palsy cases. 

Michael has written about 50 report is the past 3 years with the case split of about 85% for the claimant and 15% for the defendant. I have participated in Joint Meetings of Experts and given evidence in Court.  Michael is a member of the Expert Witness Institute www.ewi.org.uk registered on the UK Register of Expert Witnesses www.jspubs.com and holder of a Certificate of Expert Witness Accreditation from Cardiff University and Bond Solon www.bondsolon.com, www.cf.ac.uk.
